Biography

Mofoluwaso Aina Franc-Johnson was born at Ijebu-Ode. She studied at University of Ibadan, University of Dakar and University of Ottawa, where she obtained a doctorate degree in French Literature. She taught in Primary schools, Secondary schools and Universities, including University of Lagos, where she rose to the rank of Professor of French Literature. She is the first woman so appointed in Nigeria in French Studies.

Prof Franc-Johnson served in many capacities. She was Secretary General, World Congress of Africanists, Resident Writer at Wurlitzer Foundation in United States of America, Visiting Reader at Edo State University, Visiting Professor and Head of Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at University of Port-Harcourt, Member of the Governing Council of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Chairman, Caretaker Committee for National Republican Convention of Lagos Mainland Local Government and Secretary of the Nigerian Academy of Letters. At University of Lagos, she was Sub-Dean, Head of Department, Acting Dean, Hall Mistress and Chairman or Member of some statutory and ad hoc committees of the University. Her publications include volumes of Anthologies of creative works that brought into the limelight scores of unsung young African writers.

M. A. Franc-Johnson is the Founder of Johnson Arts Foundation, an NGO that promotes Creativity, Skill Acquisition and Empowerment of Youths. A Patron of aspiring writers and Church Societies, she is a Fellow of top organisations including University French Teachers Association of Nigeria and Nigerian Academy of Letters. Prof Mrs M. Aina Franc-Johnson is the Lay President of Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Badagry.
