Biography

Prof. Agwonorobo Enaeme Eruvbetine hails from Uduere-Ughelli in Delta state, Nigeria. He holds a B.A. degree in English (1972) in the second class upper division, and an M.A. degree in English (1975) from the University of Lagos; and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Alberta, Canada in 1981. In 1977, he won the prestigious “University of Alberta Dissertation Fellowship for the Ph.D. Candidate with the Best Grade Point Average.”

Eruvbetine was appointed a professor in the Department of English, University of Lagos in 1991 – a position he held until his disengagement in 2015. Apart from serving as Dean, Faculty of Arts, and as Head, Department of English; Eruvbetine has also served as external examiner both nationally and internationally. He has also contributed to knowledge in the area of literary criticism with his more than 40 publications, and has achieved the unprecedented feat of producing 15 Ph.Ds. It is this prodigious critical output (both textual and personnel) that culminated in his being conferred with a Fellowship of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (FNAL) in August, 2011. Prof. Agwonorobo Eruvbetine is happily married to Prof. Daisy Eruvbetine (a professor of veterinary science); and they are both blessed with 3 children.
