Biography

Enọ-Abasi Urua is a Professor of Linguistics, University of Uyo, Nigeria. Served as Head of Department, Dean of Faculty, Director, International Programmes, Director Centre for Gender Studies, University of Uyo and chair and member of several University committees. Two term University of Uyo Governing Council member. Involved in extensive language documentation projects, with focus on Lower Cross languages of the Benue Congo group. She is the Facilitator/Coordinator of ‘Medefaidrin spirit’ language documentation Project; leader of the Abidjan-Bielefeld-Uyo Introduction to Language Document (ABUILD), which led to MA/PhD in Language Documentation and Description, University of Uyo. Participated at InField 2010 at the University of Oregon, USA; co-taught Introduction to Phonetics with Professor Doug Whalen, and was Practicum Instructor on the Uda language CoLang 2012 University of Kansas, USA; Transcription Instructor CoLang 2016 at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks, USA. A Commonwealth Fellow, Georg Foster AvH Fellow, NAL Fellow and LAN Fellow.
