Biography
Chioma Carol Opara was born in Jos, Nigeria. She obtained a B.A hons in French (University of Nigeria, Nsukka,1975) ; M.A in Comparative Literature ( University of Port Harcourt, 1983) and a Ph.D in English ( University of Ibadan, 1987). A Professor of English and Comparative Literature, she has published four books, two monographs, about seventy articles in journals and edited volumes. She has also presented over fiftyy papers and chaired panels as well as round tables at academic conferences in Europe, Asia, United States of America and Africa. A committed academic, Opara has served as external examiner/ assessor in a few Nigerian universities and has also been invited as Guest Lecturer to some American universities. She has also edited some publications including Gender of Gender Studies – a multidisciplinary publication.. She won the Jacobsen Prize for Best Research Paper at the ISUD World Congress in Japan in 2007′ . Her research interests include gender and cultural studies. Prof. Opara is the current Director of Foundation Studies Unit, Rivers State University, Port Harcourt.
