Biography
Emmanuel Taiwo Oladipupo BABALOLA, fondly called ETObaba by friends, was born more than 50 years ago to the family of Chief Daniel Olujide Babalola and Chief Mrs. Comfort Olaito Babalola in the city of Ibadan, Oyo State. After his Primary and Secondary education all in Ibadan, he proceeded to the then Oyo (but now Osun State College of Education, Ilesa where he studied English/Yoruba. After he successfully completed the course in 1990, he was admitted to the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife where he bagged his first degree in English Education in 1993. Both Master’s and Doctorate degrees followed in 1999 and 2005 respectively, all in English. He was recruited into the Department where he got all his degrees as Graduate Assistant in 1998. He enjoyed tremendous grace of the almighty God as he rose steadily through the ranks and was promoted to the rank of Professor of English in 2013. This means that just 8 years after his doctorate degree, the authority of Obafemi Awolowo University pronounced him professor, the highest rank in the academia all over the world!
ETO Babalola is widely travelled and has to his credit many academic publications and other advocacy papers which have contributed significantly to scholarship and frontiers of knowledge. These papers have appeared in leading journals in his discipline in Nigeria, the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, India, China, Poland, Norway, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Ghana, etc. Prof Babalola is a Language Consultant who is highly sought after by academic institutions and private establishments on speaking engagements. He has supervised two doctoral students and more than 25 M.A. and MPhil students in different areas of English linguistics successfully. He has for many years been a resource person for Universal Basic Education in different states of the country. He has been External Examiner in many state, private and federal universities in Nigeria and outside the country.
He is a member of many professional bodies such as Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL) English Scholars Association of Nigeria, (ESAN), Linguistic Association of Nigeria, (LAN), International Reading Association (IRA), etc. Prof Babalola has served the Obafemi Awolowo University in many capacities such as Hall Master, Adekunle Fajuyi Hall for 10 years, Member, Appointments and Promotions Committee for 5 years, President, Awovarsity Cooperative Investments and Credit Society (the Cooperative Society of OAU academic staff) for two consecutive terms, and he is a staunch member of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
ETO Babalola is married to Dr. Adejoke Clara Babalola who is equally an academic staff of the Department of Adult and Lifelong Learning, Faculty of Education at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and they are blessed with two boys
