Biography

• PROFESSOR (LADY) ESTHER NKIRUKA UGWU, a Professor of English Language, hails from Abor in Udi LGA of Enugu State and was born on 4th April, 1958 at Aba.
• She is the very first female Professor in the Department of English and Literature, University of Benin and incidentally, the first female Professor in the Faculty of Arts of the same University to deliver Inaugural Lecture.
• Presently, the Head of Department of English and Literature of University of Benin.
• Former Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Arts (2012 to 2015).
• Head of Department at Wellspring University (2010 to 2012).
• She lectures and researches on Pragmatics, Discourse Analysis, Semiotics, Gender Studies and Onomastics in Uniben (1989 to date).
• Published two books and over fifty articles in both national and international journals.
• Attended so many National and International Conferences.
• Holder of a B.A (Hons) from University of Nigeria; M.Phil. from University of Glasgow, U.K and Ph.D from University of Benin.
• She had taught courses in English Language at the University for about twenty eight years.
• Supervised 3 Ph.Ds, 25 Masters and many Bachelors with 4 Ph.Ds and 15 Masters ongoing.

• She is married to Professor (Sir) A.C. Ugwu, a Noble Knight of Department of Physiology of the University of Benin and they are blessed with seven children and grandchildren.
