Biography
I was born in Lagos on June 17th 1946. I had primary and secondary education in Lagos and Ijebu-Ode, as well as University of Ibadan for a B.A. Degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies passed with a second class Upper Division. I received M.A. and Ph.D. in African History at the University of Birmingham, England in 1976 and 1981 respectively.
I joined University of Ilorin in November 1976 as an Assistant Lecturer and rose to become a Professor in October 1992. I was a British Academy Fellow at the University of Birmingham England from 1996-1999. I joined Lagos State University on transfer in 2009, and served as both Head of Department of History and International Studies and Dean of the Faculty of Arts.
After retiring from the Lagos State University, I joined Al-Hikmah University Ilorin. I am a Fellow of the Historical Society of Nigeria and happily married with children.
