Biography
Imelda Udoh received her BA, MA and PhD degrees from the University of Calabar in 1983, 1986, and 1998. She works in the Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages, University of Uyo. She was HOD between 1993 and 2013; Vice Dean, Faculty of Arts 2010-2012; Deputy Director, School of Continuing Education from 2015 – 2016. She has been an External Examiner and Assessor in many Nigerian and oversea Universities. She was a Research Visitor to SOAS, London in 1996, a Research Scholar to the UCL, London in 1999, a Post-Doctoral Visiting Scholar to the UC, Berkeley, from 2001-2002. She has done extensive research on the Cross River languages of Nigeria. She has been a part of several projects like the E-MELD, Michigan State University; the Nigerian Languages Project; and the PMI2 Connect Delivery Project of the British Council for 2011. She has taken part in several NUC accreditation exercises, where she served as Chairman/Member. She was Secretary of the Linguistic Association of Nigeria and the current Vice President. She was a member of the Governing Council of the University of Uyo, from 2015 – 2017, as well as a pioneering member of the Governing Council of the Ritman University, Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, from 2015 – 2019. She is a DAAD alumnus and a life member of the Nigerian Academy of Letters.
